Forum Theatre

Engaging through observation

What is it?

Forum Theatre is based on the theory of observational learning (Bandura) where participants think differently about a situation as a result of what they have observed or experienced.

How does it work?

Forum Theatre is a technique that engages a group to learn through observation. An actor (or facilitator) and a participant practice a challenge live whilst the group watch and intercept with suggestions on alternative approaches, prompting the participant to reflect on their choices.

When should I use it?

Forum Theatre can be used as part of an immersive development programme.

What is the impact?

Participants who experience Forum Theatre master new situations and have the opportunity to practise new skills.
